Madam Quinby and the Bee Hives
“A giant f*** fest in the sky.”
“Psycho bitch mode.”
These are just two of the technical phrases I learned from blogger and beekeeper Madam Quinby, aka Wardi Sanusi, as he described the lives of his bees. I’m sure there were more, but we were drinking beer. In hindsight, probably not a wise thing to mix bees and beer-drinking, but there you go.
Did I mention I was allergic to bees as a child? Haven’t been stung as an adult so I have no idea if I still am. Fortunately (?!) Wardi got stung early on in my visit, a process which releases pheromones to alert the rest of the hive of danger. So apparently they were more attracted to him, which may or may not have prevented me from getting stung.
Didn’t keep me from getting a bit freaked out getting up close and personal. I’m sure the beer helped in that regard!
See Wardi in action as he prepares a new home for a hive he inherited after a family member discovered a hive had taken over a bird’s nest in their garden.
