Call me Randy
Born in Norman, Oklahoma (Boomer Sooner!) to a classical pianist and a Methodist pastor, I learned early to fuse creativity and discipline into my pursuits. True story: kids from other states often asked if we lived in tipis and rode horses to school. Of course I said yes! But mostly I remain a straight-talking Okie at heart, raised in a small town with deep family roots & where everyone (still!) knows my name.
Professional degrees in classical singing destroyed my charming Okie accent (& friends tell me England is doing its best to confuse it even more). In my Masters study, I distracted myself from the rigours of study and performance anxiety in the quiet of the darkroom with rolls of medium format film. There I honed my visual language and printing skills (props to the outstanding faculty and facilities at Houston’s Glassell School).
As Assistant Director of the Bridges Academy at Houston’s St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, I began to develop a photography & visual curriculum when I moved with my partner to the UK.
When not making music or pictures, I keep coffee-producing countries in good financial health. In fact I’m writing this bio from one of my temporary offices, otherwise known as Caffé Nero…
